Default past - present

Picking up the new avant recently, got a flash of deja vu when I found it sitting next to a version of my old Nogaro S4.....loved that car in the sweet 2 years it was mine, matching blue alcantara and all. Loving this avant as well, which, properly modded does just fine! Maybe it needs some matching alcantara....hmmm.....

Default Just imagine what it would cost to feed those things now though...

My speed binging habits would be very expensive these days. Nice to be able to stomp on a modded 2.0T as well, not quite the same, but still brings a smile to my face!

Cheers,

Rich

Default all you guys that take your cars to the track never worry...

about wear on your car, even if you inside warrenty with you track time, broken parts arent going to happen right there they are going to happen further downn the line when all the wear and tear builds up, how do you justify taking your car to the track? or you lease? im trying to find a way to get myself out there in my car but cant convince myself

Default I agree with you Titanium

I'm also trying to figure out why/how so many people drop anywhere from $25-$30K (if not more) on a car and then decide to go put $5K worth of aftermarket parts in it...even on a leased car. I don't get it.

Default I don't think track enthusiasts really care about practicality.

Heck, if you drive an Audi you probably don't care THAT much about practicality. There are plenty of other cars that'll get you safely from point A to B.

Financial and practical implications are always a part of the equation, but...burnt rubber smells better than unused tires.

Default If driven properly, tracking your car does not really tear up your car..

I was careful but still had fun with my S4. Sure, the brakes and tires got a workout but that's it in my opinion. The suspension doesn't get a jarring workout and you are supposed to make smooth steering transitions.

The more events you do and the "harder" you drive then maybe things wear out quicker. I highly suggest you do at least 1 event to see what your car is capable of. Then you'll realize how easy you drive it on the street compared to what the car is capable of. And riding with an instructor will really make you realize how wussy of a driver you are.

Default Why not?

Audis are engineered for more than the street can offer, and it's not really hard on the car to put a bit more into it. The only "hard" wear items are on the car the tires, brakes, and oil.

And even that is not terrible. The oil will get thin and dark, so it should be changed. The brakes and tires will have a shortened life and make a lot more noise following the event. How much shorter depends on how you drive.

An HPDE is the BEST way to learn about your car. I think it should be law. Well, not really but even Audi runs driving schools and events, which show confidence in their product. I did an event in April with the local Corvette club. I had such a good time I'm going back again this year. (I can't wait!!) Turns out that a stock Audi is a pretty darn fun car to drive fast, and I passed more vettes than passed me. ;-) Since I was signed off last year, I get total freedom this year, and can play around with better drivers this time. It's gonna be a blast! But I gotta chip it first.

Most tracks run "open" events throughout the year, or you can go with a club, including the AudiClub NA. Do it, you WON'T regret it.

Default a couple reasons

You get to push the car to speeds that aren't legal on normal roads.
I actually believe my TT would be in better shape if it was only a track car, roads in dallas are horrible. the smooth track is another plus.

And we all secretly wish we were race car drivers, the track fulfills the fantasy is some ways.

Default Its an addiction...

Mines already paid off so, i dont really care. I like my cars to be unique after im done with them. And theres always a need for more power. I would never mod a lease car, that just stupid. unless i knew it was something id keep far after the lease is over. B7 a4 isnt one of them although i do really enjoy the car, Im really waiting for one of these 3: B8 S4, B8 A4 3.0 tdi, or a RS TT. then ill mod the hell outta it. the MK1 TT is staying no matter what.
