Default quick question

Hey guys

The lease on my b7 is coming to an end this month and I need to have a tail light replaced. While I bought the part on ebay, and I heard that having it replaced by a 3rd party, rather than the dealership, would violate the terms of my factory warranty.

Should I save the few bucks and have the guy down the street do it? Are the possible ramifications reason to have it done at the dealership?

thanks

Default I don't think it matters who replaces it

I'm not sure about the B7, but on the B6 one could replace the tailight assembly by oneself its that easy

Default its a tail light how hard..

can it be..ive taken out the head lights which are 1000000 million times harder and more annoying. im sure its just your typical screws behind liner and it pops right out. i highly doubt the rear bumper will have to come off. just give it a shot and if it intimidates you at least you can say you tried and actually help out the next person who tries with what you saw incase its missed by them.

Default Re: its a tail light how hard..

thanks, I'm mostly worried about having the dealership or leasing company finding out and then coming back at me saying I violated the terms of the lease.

Default Just do it yourself

As long as it's done correctly nobody will care.

As far as the warranty is concerned, Audi can't make you use the dealership even for your oil changes. As long as you can show that you had the work done you're ok.

Replacing a tail light yourself won't hurt a thing.

Default I see your car is from Paul Miller...where in NJ are you? I can give you a hand with it

I pop my tailights out all the time to clean behind them

Default Bulb or whole assembly?

Bulb is a piece of cake, look for a little access door in the trunk. Full assembly is another story, these are usually a PITA the first time then trivial once you learn the secrets of how it is held in. You might search the archives, inluding B6 and even B5 for "taillight removal" and see if anything looks similar.

Default Florham Park

If it's logistically feasible, I'd love some help. I'm over in Florham Park, by Chatham and Livingston.

my email is johndangola@gmail.com, let me know if youd like to work something out.
