Default squeeeaaaak

I remember people posting threads about the squeaky noise that the brakes make on the B7. What was the solution to that? My 3.2 is starting to do that...It's actually quite irritating.
Please let me know and thanks in advance!

Default Easy fix that worked on B5...

Brake squeal is caused by the rotors and pads building up a glaze from lots of stop and go use without heating up the pads too much.

Solution, get some heat in the pads and burn off the glaze, usually do one or the other every month or so.

1) ride the brakes for a bit at highway speeds, 30-60 seconds ought to do it.

2) make sure no one is behind you (off ramps are good for this) and jamb on the brakes from at least 60mph.

Either has always worked for me and make the squeal go away for a few weeks.

Default After you heat your brakes up that much, try not to stop until they cool off!

If you don't let the rotors cool before stopping at a light or something the rotors will warp! I would do it just before getting on the highway or on an open stretch of road.

Default Its not that they warp, the pads melt to the rotors.. Giving an uneven surface

Making it feel like its warped.

I'd say this is probably the problem 99% of the time when people think they have warped rotors.

go and do the steps posted above and it will go away again.

Default I usually do this...find an open road...

and do a couple solid ABS engaging stops. maybe from 40-60 mph.

Default You should really be going right before ABS kicks in.

If ABS engages that means a wheel or wheels is locking up.. If its locked up you are not producing heat to burn the stuff off.. Go to right before ABS comes in.
