Default 2011 A4 8 Speed Transmission

Has anyone heard of a software update for this tranny? When I'm driving in the city, the transmission is always in 6th gear and feels very sluggish. I spoke to the dealer and they acknowledged that there have been complaints.

Have you tried switching to S mode? The engine stays in a lower gear and feels quite a bit more responsive. However, mileage will suffer from the higher revs.

I agree, S mode dramatically improves response and feel.

Even in D, my car feels very responsive at all times. My guess is that your tranny did not adapt to your driving style correctly. Your dealer can reset adaptation settings and take the car through a "re-learning" procedure.

Mine feels fine. If I need some extra power I just keep it in S mode. otherwise I strive to save fuel.

Tell us more r.e. this reset - is this a possible fix for the throttle lag sometimes felt at low rpms too?

The transmission control unit (TCU) keeps clutch values that are variable to some degree and adapt to your driving style. If the transmission does not adapt correctly, the result could be weird shifting patterns (such as reluctance to downshift or, conversely, abrupt and jerky downshifts). The clutch values in the TCU can be reset to zero by the dealer and then the car would re-learn its shifting patterns. The re-learning part is actually a fairly lengthy procedure that involves driving the car for several hours under varying conditions.

There is also the possibility that the TCU itself is defective and needs to be replaced.

So is this a "problem" those with a a 6-speed don't have?
