Acceleration Issues
I've had a couple of things that have popped up recently and want to see if anyone else out there has had these issues as well with their AT's. Once in a while during acceleration, the gear gets stuck in D2 and the only way to pop out of it is with a quick upshift of the paddle shifter or sliding the gear shifter over to tiptronic and then back in to normal automatic. And I'm not in sport mode which I realize has higher revs. First time this happened I was hitting 5K rpm and it showed no signs of shifting automatically. If I wasn't paying attention or had the stereo blasting I probably wouldn't have noticed and red lined it.
Also I seem to get a slight lunging/lagging with acceleration within the first couple minutes of driving. This one might be in my head but I seem to feel something that's not right.
Anyone else with these problems?

you're not the only one
yes, i've had the issue with the tranny staying in 2nd and not upshifting. i find my pumping and releasing the gas pedal a couple of times this also fixes the issue.
i've talked to my local audi service/dealer about this, but the guy just said they couldnt find anything wrong, and since it happened randomly they were not able to reproduce it. i'm guessing this may be a software rather than a mechanical issue, but who knows. hopefully at some point audi will figure it out and update our vehicles. it is somewhat annoying to deal with, especially for a "luxury" car. fortunately it hasnt happened frequently enough to warrant a nasty letter to Audi. Yet.

I'll echo Speedpigeon's response. It happens to us two to three times a month. Our dealer has also not been able to find anything wrong and I suspect it's a software glitch as well.

I've had the same issue with getting stuck in D2. I even let off the gas and it stays in D2, then eventually it'll shift. It's very odd, but it's only happened to me maybe 3 or 4 times and I've had the car since December.

I've not noticed the 2nd gear stick issue.
I have noticed, in the last few days, a strange lunging,lagging/pulsing when:
a. I am in a slight acceleration
b. between 2,220 RPM & 3,200 RPM
c. only noticed in 4th & 5th gears
d. typically notice during the 1st few miles after starting
Not sure if this is anything like what you've been noticing but I thought I would throw it out there. My Avant is new-ish. I have less then 800 miles on it. Great motor but it sure does sound strange when warming up - just after starting - sounds like its growling at me... and the turbo sounds unlike my B7 2.0t. weird... but I love the torque!.

Your notes on the lagging/pulsing are spot on with when it happens to my avant. Thankfully it goes away after a couple of minutes, but still it seems like that shouldn't be happening. And hopefully you won't have the 2nd gear issue when you car turns 1,000 miles. Somewhere around 1,000 miles is when it started to happen with me.

I have exactly the same thing and I can reproduce it 100%, driving to work every day. It happens only when accelerating downhill - it had never happened to me on a flat surface. The acceleration is non-aggressive. The only way to force get the car out of the second gear is to shift manually. Luckily, I got the sport package with paddles. When I asked the dealer during my 5K service, they could not find anything abnormal and said that it would be hard for them to reproduce the issue since there are no hills nearby. I feel that this is a software bug that should be resolved by Audi.
