Default Concerned...

So yesterday I pop the hood open to take a look and clean up a bit and something caught my eye. This part circled in the pictures has an odd color, almost like it's rusted? Any opinions on what it is? Anyone see something similar in theirs?

Can I see the floor through your engine bay? I thought all B8's had under engine trays? Perhaps this is why you have rust?

Looks like a front shaft axel.

The engine does have a tray under it but, it only covers literally that, the engine. After that you can clearly see through the car.

That sounds wrong. On the pic I've seen (there's a thread to do with jacking points) it's 100% plastic covered underthe car.

Completely normal. Mine look like that too. The part in question is the inner constant velocity (CV) joint of the front axles.

From all the replies it looks like I was wrong. Seems like a step back as my B6 was totally sealed underneath. It helps under car airflow etc and keeps the engine bay clean. :-/
