Engine crank sensor question
For B8.5, it was 3-pin sensor 06H906433C (now rev D) and harness connector 4H0973703A, with gray/yellow wire on 1, green/brown wire on 2, and blue/black wire on 3.
For B8.0, it was 2-pin sensor 06H906433 and harness connector 4D0971992, with brown/green wire on 1 and yellow wire on 2.
What harness connector p/n and wire colors are present?
Is there any reason that chassis had a B8.0 engine swapped into it and they decided not to do the conversion and just move the B8.0 engine harness and ECM over with the B8.0 engine core? Do you have an ECM p/n out of VCDS, or a harness p/n off the harness tag?
Since you tried using the engine in B8.0 vehicles, I'm still left having to assume it's a CAE engine and not a CPM engine? The B8.5 vehicle was a 6MT or CVT?
That 3-pin connector you're showing, are you sure that yellow/red isn't measuring 12V (from fuse 7) to the brown on pin 1? Because that's not for the crank position sensor. That's for the V51 afterrun coolant pump:
chassis ground, brown on 1
fused 12V, yellow'red on 2
PWM control, gray/blue on 3
That connector is not on the branch with the crank position sensor either. Assuming this is a B8.5 CAE engine in a B8.5 vehicle:

The two 23s, one is the 3-pin to the crank position sensor, one is the 6-pin to the steering rack J500. Don't ask me why they gave both plugs the number 23 in the diagram. No idea. The 25 2-pin that is on that branch should be for the N80 EVAP purge valve. 27, 28, 29 are the three on the tree hanging under the back end of the intake manifold. The 14-pin to stuff, the 8-pin to the injectors, and the 3-pin to the knock sensor.
That 3-pin to the V51 is one of the 33s, on the bottom middle branch.
