Trust me when I say I have googled and did read every single possible thread on this forum as well as on Audizine...I know to be careful and use common sense by avoiding a pressure washer and ideally use a low stream of water with a garden hose...I get it!
However, my question is really when it comes under the engine cover. How would you clean the oilygunk around the engine block? do you simply avoid water at all and just spray carefully an all purpose cleaner /degreaser and agitate with a detailing brush and wipe with a microfiber rag? and avoid the coil packs, electrical and alternator?

I think you are on the right track, just use a small amount of a cleaner and some rags and an old toothbrush.
I do need to ask, why are you so concerned about some normal dirt on the engine ?
I am over obsessing indeed...I think I got scared to see some patches of oil gunk around the engine block which making me think of potential leakage and bigger issues? so I will simply follow your advice put the cover back and carefully detail the rest of the engine
We used to have a 2005 B6 and then we had a 2015 VW Golf TSI mark 7 which was a great little car (Audi Lite) we called her along with a FX35
We got last summer a 2019 A4 S line Black edition and we just sold the FX and wifey swears by Audi now. She says NOTHING comes close to Quattro combined with quality winter tires there is simply nothing like it! not even the FX...lol so we got a couple of weeks ago a minty, lady driven and Audi dealership serviced B8.5 that we love...I already decontaminated the paint (Iron X + Clay bar) and looking forward for the summer with our new nickname: The A4 family
