How long am I expected to wait for a dealer swap?
On the other hand, I also never tell them or any other sales what I'm thinking, what I want(unless it may misdirect to my advantage) or made any commitments. Negotiation is a skill. Simple principles, but complicated.

BTW Brian, I love your sig quotation.

I like to compare the actual act of negotiation to "Go" or chess if you prefer. It takes minutes to learn and a lifetime to master...and there is ALWAYS someone better than you at it waiting to engage you in the game.
It's ironic how the car was found. I was working with dealer A. Dealer B, who was also close by, but didn't have the car when I inquired. Dealer C, which is where the car ended up, did a swap with dealer B and just got the car this week. So dealer B had the car, but couldn't say they had it because it was already part of a swap. Get it? According to dealer C, dealer A & B don't play nice together, so I wonder if A ever looked for it at B when doing the search. Anyway, I am picking it up on Saturday. The sales person was real nice and patient and met the numbers I wanted.
Thank you all so much for the input, advice and information.

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
Personally, I've lost any traces of "free time" since I finished the deal on my own new A4 a week ago today (2.0 quatro, Pearl Blue, 18" Sport, P+ plus Nav). I've got photos of the car, still in the camera, ready to download to the computer and post. But no time to do it in. Maybe Sunday, 'cause tomorrow, I'm off to a big Rickenbacker guitar fest. I may not have time, but I do have plenty of gusto.
About the quote, Holger Merten was an extremely cool fellow who used to work for the Audi Tradition group, which is the historical branch of the company that maintains and shows their vintage race cars at races and historic car meets. He and I exchanged correspondance about some of the things he'd written in various threads at AtlasF1's Nostalgia Forum, which I thought had a beautiful flow to them. I asked his permission, and received it, to use this quote on this forum as my signature piece. He was glad it would be presented on a forum devoted to Audi. He was a genuine nice guy, and a true Auto Union/Audi enthusiast.
