Intermittent starting problem and 00955 code
I decixed to post here and not on Q5 forum because A4 forum seems to be busier.
The problem started a few months ago: the car would not start when I pushed the remote into the dash port, but would start just fine on the second try. It would happen once out of 2-3 starts.
I scanned the Q5 with a generic "VAG-specific" (not RossTech )reader that I bought mostly for rear brake replacement. It can pull engine and transmission codes, but not from some other systems like air bags.
Anyway, I got the 0095 code that said "KEY".
Cleared the code and tried to start- the car did not start at first, but started fine from the 2nd try.
Checked a few days later - the code has come back.
This problem occurs with both remotes.
The locks work fine so I don't think it is the batteries in the fobs.
Is there any procedure I can do manually before heading to a VAG tech which is in another state?
Thanks

Seems some kind of key acknowledgement issue. Would be interesting to see if you had DTCs from address 05 (authorization) or 46 (central convenience).
Is this an advanced key vehicle? I wonder if an antenna is having issues.
The only worthwhile start point is a full systems aware scan. So acquiring or borrowing VCDS or OBD11. Or going to the dealership.
Thanks for replying to me - I will check if my reader would scan central convinience, but my issue is not with the locks- they work fine.
It's the starting problem.
Anyway I decided to replace the battery today and when I pulled out the old battery it was 2025, that read 2.97V.
I bought a 2032 bagtery that read 3.3V, cleared the code. Will see
