Default My opinion about my 2012 A4 Avant Quattro

This is my personal opinion. It is neither scientific nor based upon a qualification of technical knowledge. It is simply my thinking about a car I very much enjoy owning and driving.

Necessity required that I replace my 2008 Lexus SC430 with a station wagon. I considered Acura, Audi, BMW and Cadillac wagons. I found the 2012 Audi A4 Avant Quattro Premium Plus S-Line to meet more of my desires then any of the others. I purchased one February 20, 2012.

The Acura TSX Sport Wagon’s interior was not as upscale as the interior of the Avant. The Acura was more cramped for space and could not match the frugal gas consumption of the Audi.

The BMW 3-Series Wagon did not have standard all-wheel drive, had a rough ride and did not match the Audi in passenger or cargo space.

The Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon’s overall quality of build did not appear to match that of the German or Japanese makes. It did have a unique look but was not as visually pleasing to my eyes.

The factors that most impressed me about the Avant were its looks, elegant interior, drive-enhancing electronics and balanced performance characteristics.

Many reviews I read led me to believe that the 2012 Audi A4 Avant did not excel in any one area. That may be true to some extent but the A4’s greatest attribute to me is that I find it to offer the most amenities of 2012 luxury wagons. The Avant provides exceptional power and yet, the best fuel economy. The ride is somewhat sporty but still quite comfortable although not sedate. I consider the Audi Quattro technology to be the best all wheel drive of any. My A4 Avant has this as a standard feature.

Although the quality of its leather upholstery is not as opulent as that of my former Lexus SC430, it is nevertheless quite beautiful and does come as a standard feature of the Avant at no additional charge.

The 2012 A4 Avant state-of-the-art MMI electronics are tremendous. However, it does take time and concentration to learn and master. The seating comfort for both driver and passengers is good. The foot and shoulder space provided is more then adequate. I also found the cargo space better meets my needs then the others.

The A4 Avant luxury wagon does everything well. This overall superiority sets it apart from the others. While the cars I researched might present one feature better then the others, the totality of those cars simply could not match that of the Audi A4 Avant.

The single most surprising and unexpected thing I have found after driving my Avant to this date is its thrust from a standing start. The combination of a turbocharged engine with 258 lbs of torque matted to an exceptional 8-gear transmission propels A4 3,814 lb wagon from a standing start in exhilarating and speedy fashion. This is a great feature for entering freeways from an onramp.

In conclusion, my Audi feeds my desires and senses in many ways. Not least of which is its overall ambiance. I think it is a beautiful styled car and one I really enjoy driving.

Sounds as though you love your car!! Mine is a premium plus sedan and I love it as well - the wagons are even better due to their practicality. My wife drives a 2011 A3 which is far more of a car than one would think from looking at its exterior size!

Thank you for responding.

Your wife has what I believe to be the finest automobile in its class. Not only does it have a pleasing visual design but its command of the road for a small vehicle is exceptional.

Of the 37 cars I have owned, four have been Audi. The first three, purchased in the 1970's and 1980's, were innovators in design and technology. As with new pathways, all suffered at one time or another from mechanical failures. I stayed away from buying another Audi till this past February. I was a bit hesitent to opt for my A$ Avant but it offered so much that I could not pass on it.

As I posted, I am quite happy with My Avant so far. It is superior in most every way to any of my former cars; even my 1989 BMW 750iL and 2008 Lexus SC430. these two cars cost me multiple times more then what I paid for my Avant.

The Audi dealership in Peoria, Arizona negotiated with courtesy and met my monetary demands with dispatch. It was one of the easiest "buy" I ever made.

Agree with you assessment whole heartedly! I've had my '11 Avant for 1.5years and still love driving it. Even taken it to the curvy race track and kept up with much more powerful mustangs especially with the quattro. Would love to get a new chip tune but not with the TD1 flag risk. Enjoy the ride!

The link to my cars appears to be inoperative.

This one should work:

Also a great feature for leaving other cars in the dust when the light turns green

But seriously, your assessment is identical to mine - I cant wait to drive my 2011 A4 on any given day. That probably is the best testamonial to any car

Same story from me.
Picked up my 2012 Avant in mid February - purchase instead of a lease this time.
I got the P+ and added Sprots Package so have different seats, paddle shifters and stronger suspension to go along with 18" tires.
The combination is very nice - wish I had a stick at times but the 8 speed tranny can be fun when I use the paddle shifters.
I noticed it even goes to paddle shifting in the normal "drive" mode if I flip them.
I've gone from a 2005 allroad MT6 to a 2008 A4 Avant with a MT6 and "sport suspension" and 17" tires to the 2012 Avant.
Audi Club Quattro Quarterly even published pics of my 2012 in the current edition.
