is this normal?
I guess i was spoiled in the past, because every time i had a problem with my suv and brought it to my mechanic it was fixed in a day.....now that i have my audi, every time i bring it to the dealer my car is there 3 days or more.... what have been your experience? i brought my car in this past wednesday, the water pump is being replaced, and yesterday(friday) the service person called me and told me it won't be finished until at least monday. I need to know if this is the norm, or is this particular dealer taking way too long?
Many dealers need overnight to get an item like a water pump, especially for newer cars. Often too there are expendibles required like special gasket goop, stretch bolts, and lubricants that Audi has a hard time keeping in inventory, and often overnights these items from Germany, but that takes at least two days to hit the dealer.
I have the experience that my Mercedes never stays overnight at the dealer. On the other hand, except for service appointments I have never had my Audi back the same day. They do give me a no cost A4 loaner because they realize that there are other dealers just a few minutes away. Today dealers make the most money on the workshop.
I would suggest that if your car is safe to drive, to have them order the parts and then come for the work when they arrive. Ask the shop manager how much work he has scheduled, and if he thinks an overnight repair is necessary can an Audi loaner be provided?
