Default silver dash replacement options

the previous thread got deleted, assuming admin hit 'delete topic' instead of 'delete post' when a spammer hit it

bezel had a carbon fiber option illustrated, but I'm wondering if its possible to get something that would match the rest of the silver (passenger-side dash, doors etc.) precisely? Having it clash would look dumb, so it needs to be pretty damn accurate.

Someone had a 'piano black' option that I thought was reallynice, but I'm not sure if it's too dark.

As for the A5, don't think you can escape it! it's there

See, in that top picture of the A5 the dash trim looks much less objectionable than it does in the lower picture of the A4, IMO. The black trim around the Nav screen and the dedicated surrounds around each gauge do a much better job of finishing off the trim. It's still not a great-looking piece of trim, but I do think it is much less bothersome than it is in the A4.

Yea, I'm not sure about doing CF anymore, it turns the S-Line interior much more black. I would like to see if there's a brushed aluminum option that matches the S-Line trim.

The A5 does look better -- could still be improved, but better than the A4.

Would the A5 trim piece fit the A4? The individual gauge surrounds might not, but the chrome/black treatment of the MMI screen area would be an improvement.

Not sure if it has to do with having an A4 Prestige or A4 w/Nav but my faceplate surround of the MMI screen is black much like the first photo.

Well the A4 pictured has NAV, the A5 pictured does not.

The NAV option included a larger MMI (higher res I think) screen, so I'm not sure if NAV/non-nav trim pieces would be interchangeable, although the immediate area around my MMI screen is not the silver part.

My 3.2 Nav Prestige looks just like this (except my console, dash and door inserts are wood vs silver). As you can see, the immediate Nav screen trim is black, not silver. Could be a Prestige difference.

I mis-understood your statement then -- the part you call the immediate Nav screen trim is not part of the silver plastic trim that the hazzard light switch and the passenger airbag light in it. My immediate MMI screen surround is also black (not exactly like this picture).

The difference between what I have in my A4 and this A5 is that the plastic trim piece that has the hazard switch is black in the "recessed" area that surrounds the MMI screen area -- i.e. the flat part that includes the hazard switch and airbag indicator lamp. The A5 looks better IMO.

I agree the A5 looks better. But in either car I would like that piece to match the interior trim, it makes no sense for it to be a one of a kind silver plastic.

Rep points to the first person who finds a brushed aluminum replacement.

I just checked the parts catalog. It seems that there are a couple of parts listed for that part of the dash (the part we're talking about is a faceplate for the surround of the hazard/pass airbag and info screen). I cross referenced the A5 and it seems the part is probably the same.

For the A4 (until 12/2008):
8K1 857 186 D (Concert/Symphony Radio)
8K1 857 186 F (MMI High)

From 12/2008:
8K1 857 186 G (Concert/Symphony)
8K1 857 186 H (MMI High)

The two pictures from the OP show one car with a Symphony Radio, and the other with Nav and MMI High. I think we know the difference now :-) I suspect that Symphony radios get the more black surround (and I think there is a screen size difference which may make them non-interchangable).

Note, the parts catalog doesn't list what the changes in part number actually are.

John.
