Default Android Auto

Just received my new A4 and am really enjoying it. Apple CarPlay works well with my wife's iPhone 6s and my iPod Classic. When I try to use a USB cable to attach my Samsung Galaxy S7 it is identified as a non-supported device. I can use Android Auto and Bluetooth to play music but the quality is pretty bad. I have looked at Audi's supported device pages and cannot find any supported Android devices for USB cable adapter under music. Am I missing something or is the USB cable approach for Android phones always going to be dead? It seems misleading for Audi to tout there connectivity with Android but only have it be through Bluetooth.

Thanks for any help.

When I was using my HTC M8 android phone, I had to click a dialog box on the phone screen that I accepted to use the phone for data transfer every time I connected the phone to the USB port of the car and furthermore had to use the mmi connection manager to connect to the phone every time. Was so frustrating that I simply stop using USB and Android auto.

Fast forward two weeks ago, got a Blackberry Priv and the phone is connecting very well (paired it once). The Android auto app updated to 2.0 a few weeks ago and have not experience any more problems.

So it really looks like Android Auto connectivity is really dependant on phone manufacturer and what version of Android it is using.

Yup. I think it has to be in MTP mode. Android auto works fine. You'll need to change the audio settings for better clarity (even over Bluetooth). I didn't know that and hated Bluetooth initially. Then someone here told me about input volume that is low (default setting) which has to be increased. Also, you'll have to play with the bass and treble and stuff again and it improves drastically.

Default Android auto

I did switch to MTP and then I can see the phone as an USB stick. However I cannot see any songs I downloaded from Spotify to my phone. Also, even though Android Auto is open I cannot find how to operate it from the MMI interface when it is connected to the USB port. It seems to be an USB stick when wired and when unwired works through Bluetooth with Android Auto. Am I still missing something?

Thanks

AFAIK, Android auto doesnt work via bluetooth even though it pops up on the phone. It works only via USB. Phone has to be plugged in, you have to choose Audi smartphone interphase and then it will take you through the steps. Once you do that, the phone automatically goes to Android auto the next time you connect your phone.
