Default Automatic Parallel Parking

So....the technology is there. They have it in B9's in other counties. So, why is it not in the North American version? Is it due to US laws?

No idea, but the VW Golf in the US does it, so I doubt it's a legal issue.

Volvo offers this on several models in the US, so I think it's Audi US tinkering rather than a legal issue. You can also get option this feature (as well as adaptive cruise, high-beam assist, lane keeping assist, and road sign detection) even on the base Volvo models.

The following is the Volvo description of the park assist feature on a V60:
"Our convenient Park Assist Pilot makes parking enjoyable. It measures the parking space and parks your car by taking over the steering. It handles both parallel and perpendicular parking and can also assist when leaving a tight parking space."

Well that's lame, would have been a nice feature for the prestige models. Wonder if they will do that next years model and up the price tag. Time will tell.

Definitely not a US law preventing it, my wifes XC90 does this. The salesman demo'd it for us when we bought her car in August, never used it since though. It just seems like one of those "fiddly" features that by the time you get the car setup and engage it, you could have already parked yourself. I suppose once you get used to it though, it could be nice assuming you parallel park frequently.

Yeah, of the 7-10 times I've tried this feature it's only worked correctly 3 times. The feature is good only if you have a single space between two cars either in parallel or perpendicular mode, otherwise in an open lot it will place you awkwardly right next to another vehicle. But when it does work - man is it a thing of beauty - my wife and kids are always impressed :P

Here it is on a Golf Sportwagen. As you can see, for perpendicular parking it almost always needs 2 "tries" because to find the spot you have to drive close to the cars, so it can never swing itself in on the first try. For parallel parking it is great and works quickly.

That's pretty much what the salesman said. Also that it needs to be within a certain distance/location to work correctly, but once you figured it out it was pretty slick. He also mentioned the need for cars on both sides.

It would seem we have very similar vehicles. Although we opted for the fully loaded M+ w/P* mostly because they didn't have an inscription in a color my wife liked. Very nice vehicle and she absolutely loves it.

Myself, I decided to downsize and the A4 seems just about right for me. Really liking it so far.

I'm going to try not to be too jaded that the VW gets options that aren't even available on the A4 (premium brand) models costing 70% more. It just adds insult to injury that this is available on the A4 in other markets.

Not to mention that they get two wagons (regular and off-road) and Audi only offers one.

For the most part I avoid parallel parking. Maybe do it a handful of times a year. While I think I wouldn't "trust" my car to do the parking for me (camera and sensors do a wonderful job) helping me do it myself it would be a nice feature to have but I wouldn't spent extra money for it. If I parallel parked all the time maybe it would be worth it but it's just kinda annoying that the same car has it but just in a different country. It is what it is.....still love my A4! Was more curious as to the reason why it wasn't included in the DAP package or higher trims.
