Default Battery problem

Hey there i was hoping someone could help me with my 2017 audi a4 Quattro prestige s line. I replaced the battery on my car 3 months ago and drove perfectly since but yesterday morning suddenly i got a yellow battery symbol on the dash and then later on it in the day it turned red before the car completely shut off. I got the battery checked it’s good and also the alternator which is also good. I’m super confused as to why the battery isn’t holding charge and keeps draining. called the dealer and they said it’s due to the battery not being programmed to the car when changed do you guys think that’s what it is? anyone have any similar experiences?

If you got a yellow warning and then the car shut off, clearly the charging system is not good. But did you scan the vehicle for DTCs to determine exactly what the car was trying to tell you using a worthless on/off warning light?
If you change the battery with the same kind (type/size), then no, lack of changing the serial number is not going to mean much. If you replaced it with the wrong kind of battery, well, that's on you.
"the battery isn’t holding charge and keeps draining", how do you know this? What measurements have you been tracking to confirm this? And if you only do short drives with lots of stop start, good luck ever getting the battery back to 85% SoC.
But you can't have a "car said battery problems and then turned off" and "battery and alternator are good". Get VCDS and acquire some actionable information.

i connected a different battery to the car a good one and with a battery voltage meter monitored the battery voltage and it was going down slowly indicating the battery is getting weaker not being charged. I had a part source battery that didn’t have any code or serial number on it so i just got a oem audi battery and getting it coded into the car

Yea there's a QR code on the OEM battery that you have to enter into the computer with the vag-com or it won't charge the battery properly. That way the stealership can overcharge your wallet and not your battery.

Wait what? You can't just get a new battery for this car anywhere but the dealer? I know mine will come due very soon. 4+ years old.

I have a ODB II will that help?

yep unfortunately as the other person said the stealership wants to sell you their own battery so it can be coded in or else you will be running into trouble like me. according to them outside batteries are 50/50 some work without issues and some mess it all up and yes i’m pretty sure OBD II can code the new battery in

There's no requirement for a battery with a BEM code; it's just a simplification mechanism by VAG to circumvent bone head shop techs (which I guess they hoped to become a standard mechanism, but the industry said yeah, no). I think coding is even easier on the B9; they changed to the UDS J533 no? You just pick a battery capacity from the drop down, vendor is probably going to be almost certainly JCB in the US, and then whatever as a serial. It's still poor; would prefer a direct selection of battery tech instead of it implied by the selected capacity. The BEM code supplied the battery part number, which are all already known by size and type anyway, and which isn't used in the B9 interface anyway (I presume). This tells the system the actual battery type and capacity. And it supplied the vendor code and serial number, which really can be whatever to accomplish the purpose. As these are just record keeping values, apparently for warranty purposes. https://www.bannerbatterien.com/en/B...stop-batteries I can't find that anyone has posted the adaptation interface on a B9 in VCDS or OBDeleven, but I didn't got looking under every stone.

As for "I have a ODB II"? What? You have a OBD-II device? Or were you trying to say OBDeleven?
