Default Data Usage

I subscribe to the 1Gig service through Audi/AT&T. It seems that I have had very high usage (over the allotted 1 gig) the last several months that has caused the service to stop several weeks into a new cycle. I cannot understand how the usage can be so high. I have not taken any trips, etc where I would be on the AT&T service. No music streaming - use Sirius most of the time. Any suggestion as to why my usage would be high? Thanks!

In the B9 A4, I don't think the sim is used for anything other than as a hotspot. The car doesn't use data from the sim unlike in the older models where Google Earth and traffic data and stuff can be run off of it. That's why I don't have a sim in my car since it's pointless. Unless you're talking of the sim that already comes installed which u can use as a hotspot if you have Audi connect active in your car.

I question whether this is the case. When I had my “free” 6GB at the beginning of ownership and then the additional 6 GB when I purchased Audi Connect, I went through data very quickly. Even if I was not using a hot spot or streaming music. I thing that when you have the extra data plan it uses that plan for ALL data in the car including Google Earth, news, weather, online searches, etc.

A lot of this depends on your phone settings. For example, if you have Google Photos set up to sync automatically when on Wi-Fi your phone will consume data doing this when it is connected to the cars hot spot. Try “forgetting this network” in your phone so that it doesn’t connect to the hotspot and just relies on its own cellular data.

I believe I did just this and my car was still using data.

All great points...thanks. It makes no sense to me that that amount of data is being used!

Theres an inbuilt sim or something for the google earth and stuff for the car along with the 6gb hotspot. I assume the OP has another sim installed in the SIM card slot since he meantioned something about T mobile. That was the sim I was talking about. Not the one built in. If he’s talking about the inbuilt sim of the car, then you’re correct.

Google Earth and other Connect services DO NOT count against the 6GB hotspot allowance. Most likely the OP had some app in the background syncing/using up data.

I would like to believe you but I did an experiment where I had my iPhone forget the car WiFi and I was still using data. Needless to say I am suspicious.

How did you know that data was being used? Is there a counter in the MMI that shows how much data is being used?
