Default Engine Mounts

Hi All

I have an Audi A4 B9 2017 model with 1.4TFSI Petrol engine which has done 24,000km and when I visited them for the 20,000km service, I was advised that the right side engine gel mount had slightly leaked out and its better I replace both mounts. Does anyone have any experience of mounts wearing out this fast? usually it takes a lot of running and many years for engine mounts to be worn out and this car is never driven badly for mounts to break so early.

Let me know if this is a common problem on Audi's or it just happens to be an inherent defect on mine? The warranty is now over.

It happens. Not frequently but it does happen.

We have an /18 A4 Quattro, 2 litre with 24,000 miles (approx 40,000 km) and no signs of engine mount issues yet. We also have a /15 A6 3.0T and engine mounts going bad is a common issue on the C7 platform but usually north of 100,000 km. Your situation is I suspect outside of the norm. I'm guessing you are not in North America but I would try to see if Audi in your location will possibly extend some goodwill and help on the cost of the replacement as this does seem much too early for an engine mount to pack it in.

Best,
Jeff

Does anyone have more information about the type of mounts used?

I have a 2.0 petrol and I was looking at the engine mounts a few days ago and they had what looked like soot or a powdery deposit around the opening where the thin support rod enters the mount body.

This is looking up from below the engine.

All of the rubber that Audi uses in bushings / mounts is far too soft and it's pretty common for them to fail prematurely. 034 motorsports is releasing an upgraded motor mount pretty soon that should improve the amount of time it lasts for.

The reason I ask is because I recall reading something about the engine mounts using some fluid type of technology not just standard rubber.

Yeah the Audi motor mounts have fluid inside the rubber. If the rubber is torn the fluid will leak out and will need to be replaced.
