I never pursued the idea.
I was hoping I could have the iPad Mini connected via BT and iPhone via CarPlay but unfortunatley the MMI doesn't allow such a setup. While you can have multiple devices connected via BT, once you enable CarPlay or Android Auto the MMI disconnects the connected BT devices
I would certainly pursue it if I can overcome this constraint
