newbie question regarding "coding"...
Sorry for such a newbie question, but I tried to look around for the topic,,
I see lots of experts here talking about coding and changing the car's computer system to over-ride some stock options.
1. What hardware do I need to do this?
2. Program and computer compatibility?
3. Changing the codes will that void your warranty?

See link below for hardware. I run it on an old laptop running windows 10. If you have some basic IT skills I would recommend the Hex-Net wireless. It will also work with a smart phone. Coding will not affect your warranty.

OBDEleven is a new but pretty powerful competitor to VCDS for a fraction of the price, requires Android though. And any coding may void your warranty because some coding can cause real damage and is not reversible.

I was talking to my brother last night and he had a couple 06 A4's for which I believe he bought VCDS. He didn't think it would work for a 2017 A4 because it wouldn't be supported. Is that true? Or can you get updates for it to support newer models?

VCDS may be more established, but I have to say OBDEleven has proven more capable in this platform, and I've yet to see it not acomplish something. OBDEleven is also very reliable and you have to admit that the cost benefit is a huge plus for a lot of people.
