Default RO: Strange engine behaviour

Hello guys,
Today, my car's engine, decided not to function anymore. Suddenly the engine started to shake like hell. No "check engine" indicator turned on. Turned off the engine and asked a friend to bring VCDS to check the cause of the engine malfunction. But, to our surprise, there were no DTC faults on the engine. The only strange thing is that all 6 injector's corection were like +5 or -6, and so on. I have checked the engine oil filter for metal shavings and there was no metal shavings. The fuel rail pressure is correct, engine oil pressure also correct. The engine does not knock or something like that. It only shakes to the point where all the car is shaking visibly. Could be a timing chain issue?
The car is Audi A4, 3.0Tdi Quattro, 272HP.

When you say 'decided not to function anymore' do you mean that it is now completely dead or just that it vibrates a lot when running?

You pretty much lost me at TDI. Assuming the engine still runs, if you have no DTCs, the only thing I can suggest is something external to the engine. Check the belt driven mechanical auxiliaries such as alternator / starter - generator and AC compressor or whatever else may exist on the TDI. Could be a drive belt problem or a bearing problem. Does the TDI have a balance shaft? If so and its chain drive that might be a candidate.

I need a little more information. Can you drive the car down the road like normal? Does the engine smooth out if you apply a small amount of throttle in park at idle? How many miles are on it? It could be possible that you have a bad motor mount, but I need more info.

@142 guy @silver03gt Everything looks fine in front of the engine. The car can not be driven because it shakes like crazy. No matter if it's idling or is under acceleration. If i rev the engine, the engine is a bit smoother, but still shakes. The motor mounts are OK. The transmission mount is also ok. The only thing i noticed are the injectors corrections and a noise in the back of the engine(like a timing chain rattle). The noise seems like is coming from the right side of the engine, from the camshafts sprokets. The car has around 100k miles.

Ok, so today i have checked the compression of all 6 cylinders, and unfortunately the 6th cylinder has 0 compresion. Next step is to take the cylinder head apart and see if is a broken piston or a damaged valve. Damn Audi engines 😭 You go for a ride with your car...and then...bam...you need a new engine. Thank you Audi for such a great engine...it's been a pleasure!🙃

Unfortunate.

Pull the valve cover off and carefully examine the valves. There was a thread not that long ago on the A4 forum where a dead cylinder / zero compression resulted from a broken valve spring. That individual appeared to be 'lucky' because the retainer did not pop off which would have dropped the valve into the piston. He posted the diagnosis; but, I don't recall any repair follow up so I don't know whether there was damage beyond the broken spring. Depending on the engine and a suitable valve compressor tool, it may be possible to replace a broken spring without removing the head. .

@142 guy Monday i will remove cylinder head cover at first to see if everything is fine there. Next step is to remove the cylinder head to inspect the piston and the cylinder. I really hope that there is no need for the complete engine to be replaced. A second hand one is around 7000€. A brand new one i think that is more expensive that the car itself...so is unjustified to spend that money on this car. It's been a great car as long as it worked...

Since i need a new engine, i was looking online for a replacement one. I found one CRT almost new with 8000€. But that one is CRT with 286HP and mine is CRT with 272 cp. Anyone knows if these engines are the same and interchangable? Thank you.

@142 guy unfortunately, i wasn't that lucky. My engine somehow blew a piston. Is all cracked, and the cylinder sleeve is also deeply scratched But...look at this baby I found one replacement engine with only 32k km. I can't wait to install it.

Engines don't really look like engines anymore. As far as I can tell, that thing could be the warp core from the starship Enterprise or a piece from the CERN Super Collider.
