USB audio from mobile -
Most of the time I use Spotify to listen to music. In the past I've used bluetooth but after hearing a noticeable difference between bluetooth and over the wire with Android Auto I need a better option.
Is it possible to listen to Spotify over the USB interface and control Spotify through the phone and not enable Android Auto?
I know I can use the Aux port but when I do that and have to charge my phone having two wires doesn't sound very appealing.
Make sure that the phone is not enabled in Connection Manager under Smartphone Interface. Also make sure that you have at least one song on your phone, there were reports that it may not work without any local content.

However, I haven't been able to get anything to play off the phone outside of Android Auto over USB except music files being read from storage. I have a Nexus 6p, so if it doesn't work on that, probably doesn't work at all and only works for iOS devices. It may work for someone more determined than me though, but I'm happy with Android Auto, since I don't really want to look at my phone while driving.
