I use a Vera (from Mi Casa Verde) to do some Z-Wave home automation, so while I was waiting for my car to arrive I went out and bought a gateway to allow controlling the house from the HomeLink buttons in the car.
My goal was to allow one button to unlock the front door and turn on the lights and AC, one to turn on music, and one to turn everything off (music, lights, AC).
I bought this unit from eBay: Wayne Dalton WDHA-12R:
It took a bit of setup, and I documented this over in the Vera forum here: Using Vera with Home Link car remote.
The effort was well worth it though, and now it works well; the buttons in the car correctly connect to the automation system in the house and I can hit a button as I pull in to turn on the lights and unlock the door. When getting in the car I can hit another button to make sure I didn't miss anything as I left; the door will lock (if it isn't already), AC will change to an 'away' temp, lights will go off, etc.

The amount of drilling and modifying required to get these new alcantara door panels in place was pretty epic. Audi basically ships you a shell - you make the cut outs based on the door position and features - with NO templates or markings!
But hey! It pays to be beautiful! I really love the result.
