Default When to PM replace the battery?

I have a car built in 9/2016. It sat on the dealer lot for a while and I purchased 7/2017. I have a service scheduled at the end of the month. Trying to decide if I should replace the battery now or wait until next year. No idea how it was treated while it sat for almost the first year. I had to jump it after it sat unplanned for 6 months over Covid and wouldn't restart when I got back to it. What's the group experience with when the OEM battery starts to fail?

I had it replaced few days back after owning for 4.5 years (2017 PP). Never had any issues with it, but apparently it was not holding the charge as per service report.

About 5 years is my target. Sometimes 4 if I live in a really hot or cold climate.

I live in a "moderate" climate in Connecticut. We do not get the very hot weather you get in Miami, nor do we get below 0˚F very often. I have owned many Audi's and I find that because the batteries are in the trunk rather than under the hood this keeps them from being exposed to very high temperatures. Because of this my batteries have easily gone 7 years in my last two A6's, I do not know how long they would last because I sold them with the original batteries. I think that the A4 will be similar with the trunk mounted battery. You have already gotten 5 years out of your battery which is not bad but I would not be surprised if you couldn't get at least a couple more years.

You can check the battery condition with a simple battery tester. No need to replace it just because it is 5 years old. My colleague had its first battery replacement in his BMW 10 years after the car was produced.

That's amazing! Here in Florida we usually don't get more than 4-5 years. I wonder if being in the trunk makes that big of a difference. Mine is going on 5 years now.

I hope I didn't just jinx myself.
