Default 2013 A6 - Expected Changes

Yes, I know the car was completely revamped for 2012. My thought process of perhaps waiting for the 2013 is:

1) I looked back on this thread and the first 2012s were being ordered in May and June 2011 - so in about three/four months the one year cycle should have 2013s on the horizon.

2) I am sure there will not be major changes but my hope is that I am given an additional option with the 2.0. Perhaps they will update the CVT - maybe add a little HP - perhaps take off a little weight - maybe add a color or two, etc.

3) While I was looking at the BMW 328 forum - a few people brought out that waiting for the 2nd year of a car production might be wise so that they can correct small problems that were not addressed during initial production.

Just wondering if anyone has considered waiting and whether anyone has a clue as to what can be expected.

I'm pretty sure I'll order a 2013 3.0T Prestige, and my dealer thinks he will be able to take my order hopefully as soon as April. I am looking for a European delivery on the car to enjoy it on the Autobahn and have a European vacation in early summer.

I doubt the engine/transmission/weight will see any changes, but I do hope for some less BORING colors. From the looks of it, the 2012 models have been very solid, at least I haven't seen many complaints here on the forum.

Here is a Car and Driver long term test with the 1st year design 535i. It will not do too well. I would saty away from the 1st year design 3 series. Lucky for us that the redesign A6 have been pretty much problem free design wise.

My '12 is solid. Love it ! Only 2000 miles so far, but not a problem at all. Minor tweaks were not enough for me to wait... Having said that, there is always room for improvement.

I would be more than happy to make some recommendations for minor changes that would allow more of the European options to come to the US (soft closing doors, MMI bluetooth tethering for data [not the T Mobile mandate], lap timer, Lane assist and Sport air adjustable suspension. AoA, please make these available as a retrofit as I bought my car and not leasing it :-)

Other things to change would include: more colore options, color changing ambient LEDs (A8 today, I believe), Avant 'S Line' logo in 3 spoke steering wheel (I already added), , MMI text messaging, power trunk closure (A8 today, I believe), downloadable MMI updates (directly to MMI and not service technician dependent), Google traffic option, an option to keep the screen in the closed position upon start-up (make it an MMI config), self opening windows when doors opened to help close doors easier (Ford Mustang does today... soft close doors would also help as stated before), User Programmable buttons for fast access to preferred settings already in MMI...

Again, these are all very minor issues. I love the car and am glad I jumped in with the 2012 Prestige.

It is sometimes safer to wait 1 year after revamping of model but does not mean the risk is high if you get 2012 A6. I got my A6 2 weeks ago and could not be happier. I also kept 535i E60 (2009) as I was not impressed with new F10 handling. The 328i has new N20 turbo 4 cyliner engine which also is in F10 528i, it is relatively new but it had good reviews. Main issue with 535i F10 was RFT (run flat) hitting pot holes and rim weakness, others reported tip in delay due to turbo, some reported drifting to right, but really folks on forum normally post their problems. But majority of BMW 535i did not have turbo delay & other issues reported. I expect 2012 A6 perhaps will have some software glitch in MMI but I hope nothing major like in transmission or engine.
The A6 8 speed transmission is the same vendor for new F10 BMW as I was told by sales person even head up display is same vendor. Also I think A6 engine is the same or very similar to A7 and not totally brand you. Finally if you review A6 threads on this forum all positive expect minor issues that is expected to slip quality control. It is a beautiful car and hardest part was 3 month waiting. I could not wait till 2013 and happy to be part of Audi family.

I would also add two more to that list:
-The MMI system will remain closed or in security mode while in "Valet" mode, or at least require a password
-Additional option: Manual Rear Side shades/Power Rear shade

There is not much that is available for the A6 but not yet available in the North America:
- lane assist
- power trunk lid
- dual pane acoustic and security glass
- rear/side shades or factory tinting
- luxury package (more leather on doors and center console)
- different wheel options
- differnet color options
- more MMI options (wifi streaming, internet radio)
- different trims (piano black, black wood)

It's unlikely that they will change the engine/trans combo at this time (too expensive) or add anything that doesn't exist in other parts of the world.

I was hoping that they would either (a) make a TDI available; (b) change the CVT in the 2.0 to the 8 speed; (c) or update/upgrade the CVT.

I'd love to see the US get LED distance control lights like in Europe.

Maybe throw in massage seats as well.

TDI will be available "in two years" :-)

Although it looks like the A6 will get the 3.0TDI after the A8 which is rumored to get it this year.
