Default ACC mode differences.

So I ave had my 13 A6 for a few months now. Loving all of it pretty much.

Anyone know what or how the ACC does differently when the ACC is in normal, dymanic, or comfort. It will indicate what mode it is in based on your drive select.

Also, I don't know if it is just mine, but when it is following a car in front that starts to stop at a light, it seems to not be able to let off the gas and just coast to slow, it feels like it will get close enough to have to actually start using the brakes. This sometimes is fine and car stops smoothly, other times it feels like the car is not braking hard enough in the start and has to start kind of doing a hard brake. It's very interesting, and it is like right on the thin line of me thinking it is not going to stop in time or it is. Again, its never like a full lock up brake, but it is a pretty hard brake. Any thoughts?

Be careful. I felt the same when I got my A7 last week. It seems to keep going at times, esp when approaching a red light with a car in front. After RTFM, I found that ACC will NOT slow down nor stop if that vehicle in front has come to a complete stop. Maybe the system was also trying to discern between when a vehicle is at full stop or still coasting, hence the hesitation or hard braking when close. Bottom line, back to the basics of driving - our attention or intervention as a driver is paramount in any situation. Should not rely to much on electronics gizmos....agree?

I assume that the individual select modes determine how hard the ACC brakes and accelerates, but I haven't noticed any differences when I played around with the settings.

Re: a fully stopped car, the ACC definitely will stop you as long as it has recognized the car as a moving object at some point (for instance, in rush hour traffic). What the manual warns about is stationary objects like walls--which it says ACC might not recognize to stop the car. Not sure if this also applies to situations like approaching a car that has been stopped for a long time, and don't have the guts to test that one out.

I was not aware drive select had any effect on the ACC - only shift points, steering and throttle response (US cars). Where in the manual is there a reference to this?

You can set ACC separately in individual settings.

This might be only be an option for 2013 models. I just had my hard drive replaced in my 2012 and when reconfiguring the Individual settings for driving dynamics I noticed there was an ACC option. I do not recall seeing this before the hard drive was replaced. Although, I don't see how this would be a function of the hard drive either.

Dont remember if the manual mentions it. But in the dash, if you set it to ACC mode and set it at a speed, it will display at the bottom, "distance 3 - Comfort" or distance 3 - dynamic" Not sure if there is a difference or not.

The vehicle will only react using the 3-stage emergency braking procedure when the objects ahead are stationary. Meaning it will stop at the last minute, which may or may not cause an accident. This because it may think you are turning, or pretending you're a monster truck.

In other words, notice the ACC Sign in the car. Best way to deter any problems, avoid using it during city driving.

Lastly, I feel that the different modes in ACC change acceleration and braking. Possibly pursuit distance, but that would be redundant because there is already a setting for that.

I used my ACC this weekend in stop and go traffic and worked perfectly. Recognized the car in front of me and slow keeping the space I set. Even to a full and complete stop. When the car in front moved, I just hit resume on the cruise control and it would slowly increase speed.

However, I have noticed with it on, and no car in front of me as I'm cruising. When I come to a stop light with a car already stopped, it will break extremely hard. So much so that I had to do it myself because it kinda freaked me out.

So I learned..
car in front from the get go = good
car in front already at a stop = not good
