Android Auto that function properly?
I have an 2016 Audi S6. This model did not have Android Auto or Carplay when sold, but the following year (which has the same MMI did). l bought a firmware package from the NavMan so I could get Android Auto.. Good news... the install went perfectly. Bad news... Android Auto is lacking key functions so it is pretty useless..
The key shortcoming is there is no capability to scroll left/right, up/down on the display. This means you can never move the cursor around the map to click in an area you want to navigate to or a point where where you want the map centered. The system acts like is should be able to move the cursor because the touch-pad is active, but all it does is zoom to map size..
When I challenged Ben (owner of NavMan) his posture is he is not responsible for the poor roll-out of Android Auto which Audi did.
My guess is this is not what was put out by Audi on the 2017 model which has the same MMI. I think there would have been a customer outcry if you could not do something as basic as scrolling on the display. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, what you are doing is quite unusual. Most people give it an address to go to and it sorts itself out, auto centring and zooming as required. Waze is a good navigation application for Android Auto along with Google Maps.
NavMan aren't doing anything custom to them other than (doing a very good job at) packaging up Audi software for end users where dealers wouldn't do it or charge a small fortune for. Other places do the same, including free options if you search around.
From what I understand the C7.5 hardware for the MMI is all the same, which is why the firmware can be upgraded to enable Carplay/Android Auto - it isn't possible on the C7. I think it's more likely Audi didn't quite marry up the functionality than someone managed to custom code MIB firmware to enable Carplay/Android Auto and has then given that away for free online, but just my 2¢s
So, I installed Waze on my phone and it looks like it is painless and works fully! I can do everything needed with the MMI controls.
With Google Maps, it is very different & almost useless. The system opens Google Maps, but the cursor & controls trap the cursor in a small bit of the menu at the bottom. You cant actually push any of the buttons needed to enter a destination. It requires an exit to Android-Auto's main menu & a tedious restart & cycle through all the buttons of the screen (which goes in some crazy order) to get to the button that allows me to put in a location.
Waze just sees to work.

waze.
It also uses the real time speed information and combines it all together to give you the most optimal route for you at that time, making adjustments throughout your journey.

Start at https://mib-helper.com/ with your car's MMI version and you can compile it all yourself with a little bit of research.
Whilst the Navman SD cards could be re-used, it would have to match your MMI version exactly. So better to get the right files yourself.
