Default Chipwerke piggyback results

Results will be here tomorrow. Had the piggyback on for a while yesterday. Drove it around a little. Low rpms only, since weather was bad. Minor SOTP gains. Felt like it was going into boost sooner.

Rained all day today, so didn't get a chance to do anything. Finally tonight, it dried out, so I removed the module, and did some baseline runs. Some guys on here like Pocket Dyno, so thats what I used for now. Calibrated right before the run. Left TCS on, transmission in S, no brake torquing for repeatability.

As you can see from the 60' time, the car bogged horribly on the launch. Probably should have turned the TCS off. Times are bad, but don't worry about the actual numbers. We're more interested in the difference between the baseline and the runs tomorrow with the module on.

Don't know exactly when tomorrow I'm gonna be able to get the runs in. I want to do them in the same place as todays, and need to wait until theres no traffic, so it may be tomorrow night.

Stay tuned.....

If your 275 WHP is right, and Spec is 310HP, then that's only about a 13% drive-train loss. This is some of the lowest loss I've seen--pretty excellent me thinks.

HOLY SH*T!!!

To say there was "a gain", would be a gross understatement! As I've said before, I don't take the actual numbers all that seriously, but the difference in numbers is what tells the story. And in this case, its 114whp and 1.2 seconds to 60!!

Pretty impressive for $400. Testing was done in the same place, engine same temp, ambient was 4° warmer today, tranny in S, TCS On, no brake torquing, floor the gas.

Now I really can't wait to get my inTune back from DiabloSport so I can do some logging and see exactly what this thing is telling the computer!

Better yet, I wanna get out and do some brake torqued runs with the TCS off and see if I can break into the low 4's. Without the bog, which happened on both runs for whatever reason, it should be easily possible.

And hopefully this side by side comparison chart worked.

Love how the differences keep getting bigger as the speeds rise. From 3rd gear on up, this thing pulls HARD. I'm like completely stupefied. I expected something, but certainly not what I got.

Wow. Where did you pick it up and can you elaborate on how it's installed?

Looks pretty cool.

For $400 you can't go wrong with those gains.

How safe is the chip in the long run?

I got it on eBay. Vitalen Garage from Turkey is the sole distributor of it for the rest of the world. They also have their own version of it (chiptuning06) that makes 22 more ft/lbs, but is $200 more.

Install is cake. It simply plugs inline with the MAP sensors. Then you route the wires were you want them and secure the module. I velcroed it to the drivers side frame rail for easy removal during testing, but you could put it where ever.

I'm not seeing any real potential problems from it. People have been running piggybacks like this for decades. It used to be the only way to tune a BMW 3 series, before Cobb released a tuner, and I used a similar module on my X5M.

"Install is cake. It simply plugs inline with the MAP sensors." With normally aspirated engines, ECU's can be tuned to set Air-Fuel-Ratio to right at 12.5:1 which produces Max HP, then Timing can be changed to get Max HP, and gains of maybe 8-15% are possible, but never more than that. My guess is that "chiptuning" must be doing something to the MAP sensor to keep the bypass valve in the Supercharger closed longer to increase pressure going into the cylinders.

Yeah, I wonder if that is the case. I had a tmap tune for my 335 5 or 6 years ago and it was pretty effective for a piggy back type tune. Interesting results in this thread.
