Default Downsizing wheel size

I have a Prestige with 20 inch sport package. And although I love how the wheels look, I'd rather have a bit more comfort. I was thinking of going to 19's with a slightly softer tire. Has anyone else done this? Does it make a difference? Or is it such a small change that it's not really noticeable? Originally I was thinking of going to 18's but I've seen some pictures and they look a bit too small for this car.

Any thoughts?

My opinion, having had 19s and 20s on several cars, including 20s on my A6...no noticeable difference...you're not getting that much more in sidewall. Now 20s to 18s, you'd most likely be able to notice, but handling would also suffer.

IMO the 18's don't look to bad and a quality set of sticky summer tires will help the handling.

Never changed wheel size before, but wouldn't that require you to adjust some settings for your speedo, and odo?

Not if you buy new tires in the correct size for the wheels, i.e. 255-40/19 for 19" wheels or 245-40/18 for 18" wheels, Should be very close to the same circumference as the 20" 255-35/20.

I had the same question. I've had a few awesome offers on 2012 A6 Prestiges (dealers really want to get rid of them) but most seem to come with the 20-in package. Although the 20s look great, I don't need them or want them, but I do want the sport package. I would rather go with the 19s and an all-season tire like the ones that have been recommended on other threads. So I assume it wouldn't be too difficult swap the 20s for the 19s after purchase; should be an easy swap through the forum or Ebay. And then it would just be a straight-up remove and replace. At least thats what I'm hoping. Bottom line is that I don't think I should turn away from an awesome offer because the car has the 20-in package; wouldn't that be silly. It should also be noted that the 19" rim in the 2013 sport package blows away the 19" rim in the 2012 sport package.

I believe the A6 19" Sport package wheels for the 2013 are the same as was offered on the 2012. The 18" Sport package wheels were different (the 18" sport package is no longer available on 2013's).

You're right. I was looking at the 2012 18" sport package rim. Thanks!
