Default Engine Oil Recommendation

I am going in for an Oil Change Service at my 2000 miles.... New engine, more wear and tear ..so Yes at 2000 Miles. I spoke to my dealer and they use "Castrol SLX Professional LL03 5W-30" for my Audi A6 2012 3.0

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this specific oil ....? Or if anyone can recommend a better one.

I was also looking at Mobil 1 Extended Performance. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

In the olden days it was customary to change the engine break in oil around 500 - 750 miles. If you want to change your oil before the 5000 mile mark, how did you determine that 2000 miles would be the right distance?

I had already setup an appointment with my dealer for the Wind Noise and I had already spoken to them about changing the Oil at 2500 Miles.... Now, i haven't reached 2500 Miles yet but around 1900 something. So just thought would do both the services together rather than going for the second time for 2500 mile oil change

You'll need to use an oil meeting VAG quality standard 502.00 if you wish to comply with warranty requirements for the USA. It's that simple.

Welcome aboard, Archie!

From the limited searching I've done I thought the 3.0 engine takes 5W40 not 5W30. can anyone clarify? One site sells complete oil change kits for the DIY'er (filter, gaskets and oil) and what's pictured there is 5W40. Whatever you purchase make sure it's like uberwgn says.

They still seem to prefer 5W40 oils vs. xW30 oil. Keep in mind that the 502.00 spec contains minimum "thickness" guidelines so the end consumer technically does not need to be concerned with the weight of the oil cuz the spec takes care of that. Example: Castrol 0W30 meets the 502.00 spec and therefore MUST comply with the minimum thickness guideline.

I don't think there are any 5W30 502.00 oils sold in the USA at retail. (Pennzoil offers something but it may be bulk-supply only.)

I'd say the "common" 502.00 oils are M1 0W40 and Castrol 5W40. Many Autozones have the Castrol 0W30, too.

Here's a thread about where to buy VAG 502.00 spec oil. Might be handy to have a quart handy if your new engine uses some.

Archie, you can find on the VW or Audi website a complete list of retail 502.00 oils for sale in the USA. There are probably a dozen oils on that list.
