Default Forgestar wheels

As some of you may know, I have a build tread over at audizine and ordered a set of Forgestar Cf5's. I got the wheels last week and working through some issues.

1. The color is not like what Forgestar markets it to be, they call it Back Graphite but it is more like a hyper silver. My first reaction upon opening the boxes was, "Wow, these wheels are really silver" To be fair, the finish is a 2 stage powdercoat: black base coat with a silver top coat. In the sunlight they come off as silver while in darker lighting they look like a glossy charcoal. The internal name for this finish is "New Infiniti Dark Silver", I think they should market it as Dark Silver. However, this is not a big problem because I still think the color looks very nice.

2. Knowing that Anthony has 20x9.5 HRE's with a 27mm offset, I asked a technician at Forgestar if the same size wheel with a +35mm offset would work (I didn't want to be as aggressive as Anthony's fitment) and he said they would, so I proceeded to order the 20x9.5 CF's with that offset only to find that due to the concave design the wheels don't clear the front brakes. I went to a local auto parts store and bought a universal 8mm spacer just for fitting purposes and found that while the wheel can spin it still rubs against the brakes, at least a 9mm spacer is needed but I can't find one, the closest thing is a 10mm spacer. A 10mm spacer would make essentially make the wheels have a +25mm offset, I'm now afraid they're going to stick out from the fender. Unfortunately, out of excitement of getting these wheels I had tires already mounted on them. Hopefully Forgestar still offers me a solution.

3. The color of 1 of the 4 wheels does not match. It looks like one wheel has a thicker silver top coat on it preventing the black base coat to show through as much as the others. Even though I have tires mounted on them I think Forgestar should still correct this. I'll eat the cost of dismounting the tire(s) from the wheels.

I know most companies will not accept returns once tires have been mounted on them and I partially understand why. If I were a wheel manufacturer or dealer I would not want customers coming to me after tires being mounted and/or being driven on saying there are issues like cracks in the coating, bent wheels, or anything else that could have been caused by the installer or the customer. However, I hope Forgestar's and my vendor's policy does not apply in my case because the wheel fitment and color issue is obviously not something that could have been caused by the installer or being driven on and I'm not asking to return them for a refund, I just want the problems to be corrected.

Any pictures of the mismatched finish?

I've been modding all my cars for 10 years now... and no matter what, something always goes wrong....

agreed, I too have been modding cars for the past 10+ years. All companies make mistakes but the good ones make sure they correct them.

Darcivic,

We both have the same standard prestige wheels. How do you feel about them? I didn't like them initially, but they are starting to grow on me a little bit. I do think I'll end up changing them, but that will be just another headache I'm sure...

They seem to be about this size when it comes to after market wheels and a dealers brake job estimate.

I like the wheels alot actually, but the beefy and ugly Conti tires are not so great to look at. The main issue I have with the wheels is I think 18's are way too small for this car (as do a bunch of us on here), but a great option for a winter setup.
