Default General Problems

Having a thread just for everything gone wrong in our cars is important, with that, we can help one-another in figuring out which one is a problem and which one is a Viral problem.

Again, I made this not for general complaints about the car, but rather what went wrong in our car.

- My air filter smells, I thought I was imagining it. Seems someone else has it.

- I def hear the wind noise problem, it's very annoying because I can't tell what it is when I have music on, I keep thinking my car is dragging something.

- One of my driver headrest round clips (the ones around the headrest pillars) has disconnected from the top of the seat, looks very cheaply made, and this might need the whole seat to be changed.

- My front passenger rail clips fallen off. (clips that attach to the seat rail, which adjusts position of the seat) I'm sure I can do this my-self, I'm just curious why it fell off in the first place.

- Nav Button is sticking, I thought I spilled something, but it's not sticky in a nonuniform way, it seems to grind against the trim or something.

- The seats age faster than Mel Gibson in Forever Young.

If you don't have your car model/trim anywhere in your sig, please make sure to post it to better help everyone.

What kind of smell did your filter have? My HVAC smells like diesel fuel all the time.

- Wind Noise factor for sure on drivers side window
- Noisy suspension for first 3 weeks.... went away on its own, probably springs settling.
- I've just started noticing wear on my drivers seat. Car has 7100 miles over 7 months... all of my Acuras had a softer, better (yet not "genuine" leather).. which would look 5x more wrinkled by now, so I'm not completely mad

One day, my Stability control failed while I was in NYC... Quick restart of the car, cleared the code... never saw it again.

The leather wear is a bit concerning. The perforated seats don't seem to withstand much abuse. Noticed it pulling apart in the rear seat (infrequently used) after 8-9 months. Not huge but I would have it expected it to last longer.

I had that smell for a little while, but no one really could pinpoint the problem, they didn't swap out anything and it went away.

Now my AC smells like sweat or used socks (whoever said this, it was a good description)
I never had any dirt in the car, and I'm a clean guy. So I'm curious where it's coming from.

I'll be cleaning my car, from the top down so I can re-assess the smell.

Also note, that the ventilated seats' fans are right on-top of the rear foot-wells. So I'll see if something got picked up from there...

All in the weekend though...

Smell from the AC is probably due to bacteria in the system. You need to get it cleaned out by either a dealer/specialist or if you can find one, a can of cleaner from a motor parts store. You set the aerosol can off and run the car for about 5 mins with AC on full power and set to recirculation. There was a thread the other day about this (https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2835857). It has nothing to do with dirt in the car, the bacteria just love the warm moist environment inside the AC system

1- Wind noise, dealer did TSB but swooshing noise like windows not fully closed still there. Could be side mirrors design or seals but annoying especially when radio is off.

So far the only issue is a chip on the wood trim passenger door which was replaced by the dealer. Car is still going strong after 5.8k miles.

My issues for 5K service visit:

1) Light stains on inside left rear door panel and handle upon delivery; tried cleaning but no joy; reported to the dealer when I discovered it; will prob need to R/R panel and handle (Suspect something was dripped on at manf. or port).

2) Trunk sensor often opens the trunk as I walk close by the left rear fender after locking the car; waving foot under rear bumper opens trunk intermittently instead of all the time; still not sure what dance I need to do to make it work all the time; weird (and annoying).

3) Faint exhaust-like smell after full acceleration; most evident when lifting off the gas right afterward; doesn't last long.

4) In 3/4 of full acceleration, tranny seems to hesitate ever so slightly between 2nd and 3rd gear;

5) One time occurrences; probably just non-repeatable computer glitches but will have it noted on service record and checked out:
A) Driver door would not unlock with either fob or door handle touch (Advanced Key); after car sat for an hour or so, has worked fine since.
B) MMI screen did not come up when car turned on; turned off car then back on and has worked normally since.

6) Rear 12v access door will not stay closed (my fault so prob this one doesn't count - I stomped on it while cleaning the back window and prob broke the latch ).

I'm going to run a full auto scan in Vag-Com before I take it in to see what, if any, faults show up.

This is very concerning. This is why I am still on the fence about getting into a German car after being an owner of a Japanese luxury car.

German cars look so nice and come with a load of great technology; but their reliability seem to get the backseat when it comes to what should be priority.

Then again, no car is perfect.
