Door Handle key cover gone

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to share.
This must be a "thing" that happens to our cars. I saw my cap was loose the other day and popped it back on. My wife just drove it across Canada and it was missing at her first stop.
We live in a rural, zero-crime area. So these pieces must not age well.

A further update....
I ordered the cap for the rear door (no key hole). They are interchangeable.
The piece is pre-primed, just scuff and shoot.
I got pre-mixed single stage paint in cans to paint it. I did go over it with clear. The single stage didn't match the gloss on the rest of the car - and I already had the clear.

This same thing happened to me on the driver door a few weeks back and the Audi diagram left me confused. The cap is gone and there seem to be two parts that look identical in the picture...
4H1-837-879-GRU Cap Left, With Chrome ($45 list)
4H1-837-879-B-GRU Cap Left Without Chrome ($110 list)
Can't figure out if I need both?

Mine was under $100 for the part and $35 for the custom mixed color-matched spray paint. Installation was "free self-install."

Oddly enough a German indie shop mechanic fixed it for me as I was getting brakes and rotors installed that I ordered online
The door handle had a cable loose and he was able to take off the door from the inside and tighten the cable first. The part must have fallen out when the handle came slighlty loose - how Iit happened I have no idea but guess it seems like these driver caps just fall off sometimes
Audi WPB Braman estimate was 1.5-2 hrs labor ($400-550) labor + $110 parts + paint
Indie shop, door cable fix, door cap install and Audi part from Audi NO: $180

This isn't relevant help, but some FYI. That didn't fall off, and no-one was looking to steal that cover: A car thief pried it off so they could use large flat head screwdriver end of a four way tire iron to force the lock tumbler. It happened to me:
I had just come from an auto parts store where I bought a $25 car cover and left it on the back seat in sight. Then I went into a grocery store for less than 10 minutes. I went to my car, tried to put the key in the lock, but then I saw keyhole askew. I slid the key into the lock and it fee wheeled, and when I pulled the key, the tumbler came with it. The thief put the tumbler back in after they looted the car.
Petty thieves don't care how much damage they do to steal a nickel's worth loot.
