Leaving the car with the ignition on...
It took me a while to figure out that you can't leave the car with the keyfob, otherwise it shuts itself off. Okay, makes sense on a certain level to not allow the car to continue to run when the key isn't present, fine. If I leave the fob in the car, I can get out and it will still continue to run. However, the incessant loud beeping that is associated with the "Turn igniton off before leaving vehicle!" message on the info center is rather annoying.
I don't mind if the behavior of shutting off when leaving with the key remains, but is there any way, perhaps with VAG COM, to at least get rid of the beeping when the key is left in the car? I looked through the manual and MMI guide and didn't see any mention of any built-in way of defeating this.
The reason for leaving the car with the key in my pocket with the engine running was to make a quick dash into the nearest quickcheck and keeping the AC running during the heat wave we are facing today!

It is only with 2013 models on...it is tied into the Start/Stop technology

We are also seeing roadside signs encouraging drivers to switch their engines off at places such as railway crossings and queues for car parks to reduce the levels of roadside pollution (the EU has set targets for each country and failure to meet those targets results in significant fines.
With fuel currently costing something like the equivalent of $7.76 per US Gallon here there is also the financial consideration and thus not much demand for such a practice
That's funny right there. But Americans want to leave their car running so we can get our lattes/6 pack, but agreed, sounds like a start/stop feature. I can get out and get the mail with the car running, although it does beep and let you know.
