Memorial Day 3.0T mileage
Just a quick note, driving the stock 3.0T about 250 miles up and 250 miles back (DC to PA) this weekend, mostly highway including some significant traffic as you can imagine, couple of stops along the way, and I averaged 30.5 MPG. I kept both the AC and the ACC on pretty much the whole way, I was impressed. Without the traffic I bet it would have been a couple points better.

That's presumably as reported by the DIC? Real world is probably 5-10% less but nevertheless very good, especially when compared to cars with similar engine size/power.
I'm also pretty amazed averaging ~25mpg in freeway driving in the S6!

I recently went on a quick roadtrip from LA to San Diego and back and averaged 33mpg down and 31mpg on the way back
I too was using the AC and had a moderate amount of traffic, was able to avoid a bunch of it thanks to Waze

I did a 823 mile trip and averaged 43 mpg. My mpg was calculated the old fashion way by taking out my calculator when I filled up. Of course I have a TDI, so your mileage may differ.

according to the old fashioned method my actual average should be about 29 mpg for the trip, so I'm thinking that could have hit 30mpg without the traffic jams. Coming from the pig that got 19-20mpg (with strong tailwinds) on the highway I'm happy with that. My daily 10 mile commute is an indicated ~24mpg with some city and often crowded parkway driving.

The A6 3.0T does get terrific gas mileage for a 2 ton AWD car. I think the ZF 8 speed in the A6 is a wonderful transmission that surely contributes to the great mileage and relaxed feel of this car when cruising on the highway. My highway mileage is similar to those who have posted above.
