Default Oil Change

I remember a while back there was posts about the new A6 possibly doesnt actually have a oil drain plug.

I havn't actually pulled off the bottom cover to check, but if this is true, can any one recommend a high quality oil vacuum/pump to pull the oil out. Alomst at 10k and I usually change the oil every 5k. I have never used one so not sure what to look for in terms of quality/features. Seems simple enough though. I am ok with a middle of the road/higher price as I plan on keeping it for the life of the car (100k - 200k+ miles.)

All in all high impressed with this car. Debating taking the time to write up my 10k impressions for a post for those on the fence about taking the plunge.

The tool of choice is the MITYVAC 7201 Fluid Evacuator with 2.3 Gallon Capacity. It has the larger capacity and used oil can be pumped out into your container for recycling.

The MITYVAC 7400 is not favored because it has a smaller capacity (1.9 gallon)and oil has to be poured out.

Audi pays for the 5000 mile oil change. You didn't have that done?

Default Dipstick???

I was cleaning the 2.0L engine on my new '13 A6 and did not find a dipstick. I see a capped tube in the front of the engine that looks like it should be a dipstick tube. If this is where a dipstick should be removing the cap would be easy. The electronic oil display on the MMI looks like a dipstick with a min and max line. Is the tube in the front of the engine where one would insert a hose to remove used oil? The oil filter is very close to the capped tube so an oil change should be fairly simple.

Oh, I had Audi do the 5k. I bought the service plan as well. I just prefer to change oil every 5 instead of the 10 or 15k the service plan does.

Default Do Be Careful Sucking Out Your Oil

Although sucking out the oil is an Audi approved method, they are NOT doing a very good job of it. My 2010 S5 Cab just had it's yearly visit to the dealer and when I got home, I checked the oil. It was just as dirty looking as the oil in my 2013 A6 that has 4200 miles on it. Why?? Because obviously they didn't let it sit long enough for the oil to drain down to be sucked out. That, or they just didn't care enough to get "most" of it out. So, if you are going to suck, do it right and try to get "all" of it out.

I called them on it and they said, "Oh come by and we'll check it out." And that will waste another day for me driving back and forth. As it turns out, you can request they change your oil the old fashioned way -- by actually draining it. Not that that will do any good if they are not willing to let it sit and drain long enough.
