I suspect that upgrading the C7 to 4G might not be any easier than trying to upgrade a 3G phone to 4G. A new phone is the only practical option. While it might be possible to replace cellular components in our cars, as usual, it probably won't be inexpensive to do so.

Technology keeps improving. The electronic device/computer/audio component bought last year will still work as it did when it was new. I'm not concerned that the computer I purchased 5 years ago has been usurped by newer models as it does what it needs to do and as well as it did when I bought it.

Since I purchased my 2009 A4 four years ago, Audi has come a long way with in-car electronics technology. Since I don't use my A6 as a rolling office, 3G works just fine for my needs. Reducing time for page loads with 4G would be nice but not critical. Each year the tech found in Audis will advance further but it won't make my tech any less than it was the day I drove off the lot.

But Audi has already partnered w/ Germato to do this with current 3G models in Europe.

"So, the brand has partnered with digital security company Gemalto to offer Audi owners a faster connection. The new system is an upgrade for Audi’s current infotainment devices that allows them to process an LTE data connection. The Gemalto LTE chip replaces the existing 3G built into the infotainment hardware, meaning all current Audis with 3G capability should allow for the upgrade, however, Audi has yet to reveal when, or even if, we’ll be getting it stateside."

The key phrase above is in italics. Great if it comes to pass in the U.S. but I'll believe it when it happens.

As usual, Engadget did get one thing wrong - Sirius Traffic is NOT included with AT&T/Audi Connect. It's a separate subscription available only from Sirius (in the U.S.) at $3.99 per month. 2013 Audis with 3g MMI Nav+ (pretty much most models now) get 48 months of Sirius Traffic included free.

I just got a 5-day expiration notice from Audi. They are offering:

Monthly:$30.00
One year:$324.00($27/month)
Two years:$600.00($25/month)
30 months:$450.00($15/month)

...so I can confirm that this is now an "official" offer. It's hard to see why they kept the two-year option in there, except to illustrate how good the 30 month offer is.

Does anyone know if this subscription goes with the car if I were to sell it, or is it personal to the owner?

I actually (sadly) read the T-Mobile agreement and it says if you sell the car you have to notify T-Mobile or you are liable for any violations of contract (or something like that, I am not a lawyer ). I'll be buying it - I won't be selling my car in a year.

What's with the comment on that piece that says you can plug a USB modem I and get Internet through that? Anyone know about this?

Like T mobile will go after you for something like that! Of course you can use your SIM card in any car with Audi connect even if you sold your car and T mobile will never know about it BUT the problem is the account is "attached" to the VINs car so the new owner could not start his own service because yours will be active, what I would do is transfer the service to the new owner and charge him for the whatever months are left, and IF he says he doesn't want the service then keep it for my new Audi.
