2.7T Engine Problems
1) 2002 Has 3000 miles and makes high-pitched whine (more like sleigh bells) during hard acceleration
2) Noisy cold start - sounds like a manifold crack. Ceases after 20-45 seconds of operation (when trhe engine is warm)

Noisy start is probably part of the emissions system. Not a problem.
There is an odd exhaust note for the first 30 seconds. I think its some gizmo to warm up the catalyst.
As to the high-pitched whine, it could be a bad turbo, but could be simpler and cheaper than that (like a torn throttle body boot).

# 1 is probably the turbos themselves. #2 is almost definitely the "secondary air injection pump"..
...and this is a normal noise. The pump helps heat up the catalytic converter more quickly to reduce cold start emissions. It's a funky, low-pitched noise, almost like the car is "passing gas" ;-)
Regarding the turbo noise, all turbos whine, some more than others. I can hear mine more when the car is cold.
OTOH, it could be a boost leak somewhere. It should be still under warranty, so have a dealer check it - remember, it's FREE!

My 2.7T does the engine noise on start up as well.. it is a typical
noise inherent with cold-start ups. The dealership told me it is the vacuum pump for the emission system.
I too just started noticing this noise as it didn't create this sound during the summer when I purchased the car.
I wouldn't sweat it, yet.

My 02 does this also.
I have brought it in two or three times saying I get a metailc noise, bell sound good description, when the engine is cold and I press it a little. When I hear the noise I back off. The dealer said that there was no problem. I just worry that a turbo could be out of spec and starting the fail cycle. After the car warms up the niose goes away no matter haow hard I push it.
