6-year-old: needs a child seat? How does it attach?
If you have those rear side impact air bags, you'll want to keep the childs head away from those side bolsters, especially if he's prone to falling asleep and flopping his head over. I'm in that boat, so I use one of these...

It doesn't attach to anything. It just fits snugly into the rear seat (once the car's headrest is raised), and positions the child properly. If he fals asleep, I know his head isn't resting on the air bag. It's also great for traveling, since the bottom can be used on it's own in other cars.
