Default Airbag light on!

Recently the airbag light of my 2000 A6 2.7T came on and wouldn't go.

I visited a dealer nearby and they said I need a new airbag control unit. They tried to earse the fault code but it would't go.

The price for this control unit '4B0 959 655 H' was so expensive that I searched the e-bay I found this.

Any idea if this would work and clear the fault code? Otherwise I will have to search at 'car-part' or 'shokan' for the part.<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/VW-Audi-VAG-Airbag-Reset-crash-data-erase-OBD2-Tool_W0QQitemZ300054559647QQihZ020QQcategoryZ30921 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">http://cgi.ebay.com/VW-Audi-VAG-Airbag-Reset-crash-data-erase-OBD2-Tool_W0QQitemZ300054559647Q

Default If the module is bad, there is no way to reset the light.

Don't waste your money on that POS. If you are going to get a tool it interface with your car's systems, get VAG-COM or Pro-Diag.

Default mine's been on for many months as well (2000 2.7 also), my dealer said it's the clock spring and

would be about $500 to fix, but they were only 99% sure it was the problem. my indy checked it and said the same, i'm going to have them fix it - probably for $300 if i had to guess - going by previous work they've done for me

It's not a difficult repair. I'm surprised it's that expensive.

Default $300 is not a bad price to replace the clock-spring...

The cost of the part is somewhere near $200+, and between the time needed to remove the airbag, steering wheel, and steering column trim to get at the part plus teh time needed to recalibrate the steering angle sensor, that differential in labor ( less than $100) seems worth it!

they told you...mine is going to cost about $90 for the part and about an hour of labor $100.

$300 was just a guesstimate as i've read it's about 2-3 hours labor plus part, so it could be less

Default Since my computer was moved to the basement, no cord long enough for my VAG. Need to buy a laptop...

Plus, you are assuming that it threw a code while illuminating the AirBag light. My overhead light did not come on when unlocking the car, opening the door, or when the ignition was turned off. Now that we have hit freezing, the light works fine.

I guess the cold causes contraction in the connection such that the airbag sensor does not properly connect and the overhead light does. I am going to take the central locking controller out and apply electric connection cleaner. I do not think I will tackle the airbag this way.
