Default Audi A6 Quattro 2001 won't start - need advice please!!

Hi there,
I am new to this forum and I need an advice before spending a fortune, hope you can help!!
I have an Audi A6 Quattro A6 petrol/LPG which at the moment doesn't start.
This happened already 3 weeks ago, it was towed to the mechanic which charged me 2 hours work (£90) to clean the wiring as he said there was dirt from the petrol tank and then it worked fine until 3 days ago when again same problem...
Another mechanic came to check with a VAG (as my usual garage is closed for 3 weeks) and said we need to replace the air flow sensors, but then he is not even sure it will work...
I just spent £400 3 weeks ago as previous mechanic ended up changing the battery, cat + hand work, still have same problem.
The car is probably not worth more than £1000 so before spending more money on it i want to be quite sure of the problem and if there is a cheap solution...
So the errors found with the VAG are:
- 16486 P0102 Mass Air Flow Circuit-G7 0:low input
- 17978 P1570 Engine sporadic: control module disabled
- 17544 P1136 Bank 1 sporadic: mixture adaptation (add): system too lean
- 17546 P1138 Bank 2 sporadic: mixture adaptation (add): system too rich
- 16514 P0130 O2 sensor sporadic: circuit, bank 1 - sensor 1: malfunction.

4-5 months ago we replaced the cat and o2 on the left side, 3 weeks ago the cat on the right side (because of noise) and the battery.
I would like to know if there is an easy trick we could try to turn it on before replacing the Air Flow sensor as suggested by the mechanic which will cost £200 and then he is not even sure it will work...

Any suggestion please?

Please please help, before I spend any more money on a car which is not worth, or I might consider scrap it...

Thank you in advance
Ellie

The fuel filter should be changed if dirt was in the gas "petrol" tank, yes

Default Wait a minute

Do you mean LPG "Liquid Propane Gas"?

I guess it's better than HHO gas, different story nevermind.

One of the reasons to take it to an audi dealer who CAN swap out the MAF and if it doesn't work YOU don't pay. Or find someone with your car and swap out MAFs...

Thanks for the advice, I went to the Audi dealer (an honest reliable one highly recommended on this forum) when I just bought the car as the remote central locking didn't work, and they asked me for £75 just to look at the car and tell me how much it would cost to fix. Thanks, but no thanks.

So we ended up ordering the MAF on ebay for 50 quid and arrived today, but my man says it still doesn't work (I need to trust the man did his best...). My man says we need to reset the computer with the VAG or it won't start, is that true?

Now I ordered the fuel filter and let's see...
But I read somewhere it could be we need to clean some wiring, and actually that's what the mechanic did last time (just 3 weeks before).
What wiring are these? Could it be just a relay instead?

Ok we'll try the fuel filter when it arrives tomorrow.
If it's not, someone said could be the fuel pump?

Thank you for your help, any other advice is welcome!!

MAF will not stop the car from starting. You can take it out and throw it away and the car will still start (won't run very well though).

There is no reason to reset anything to get the car to start. Sure, you'll want to turn the CEL off when the car is fixed, but it's not necessary to make it run.

Uhm... I was afraid of that... The mechanic said that needed to be changed but then was not even sure if it would work, that's why we opted for the cheaper DIY option before ending with another £200+ and problem not solved.
So you suggest it must be the fuel pump? Can it just be a fuse problem?
The strange thing is that when it happened last time the garage just cleaned the wiring and it worked (for 3 weeks...).
Well, it looks like the car will be towed to the mechanic tomorrow and hopefully we won't be ripped off...
Any advice is still welcome!
Thanks

Doesn't sound odd to me. Failing fuel pumps can have a "last hurrah".

Good luck!

okay so im gonna ask the obvious question ... what wires did they "clean " ? that will tell you a lot ..

bottom line regardless of codes a car needs 3 things to start.
fuel, spark and compresion. if you are constantly cranking and it doesnt start but you dont smell fuel , id go with injectors not firing or fuel pump ..

like the old adage says .. get one of two things out , your tool box or your cheque book.
