Buggered up remote programming
I bought a new switchblade remote and got it cut for my '99 A6. I dutifully followed the instructions in the tech section and successfully programmed the new remote.
Then I tried the old remote. No workie. What did I do to the old remote that was working fine?
I tried to re-program the old remote using the same procedure as my first one. No workie.
What the...?

During step 3, press the unlock button twice....
this happened to me when I programmed my second remote--the new remote worked, but the original one didn't. I tried it again, but pressed the unlock button twice, and both remotes worked. I think it so you don't accidentally open your trunk when the button is in your pocket....
If you accidentally unlock your doors, and don't open a door within 30 seconds, the doors relock, but if you accidentally hit the trunk button on the remote, the trunk is open. I guess they could have just added the automatic relocking feature to the trunk too, but they didn't. Actually, a lot of cars, including American cars, have the 5 second hold button on the remote for the trunk.
