Default A/C problems

Hello all. Odd occurrence in my '04 A6 yesterday. I had the timing belt/water pump and all that replaced yesterday. When I got it back from the shop right before they closed, after driving it around for awhile (on my way back home, which is 2 hours from the shop i took it to.) I realized that it was super hot in the car...and i realized the A/C was blowing hot air, even with the temp set at low. I also quickly realized the Econ button was stuck on. When i got home, i suspected that he forgot/didn't hook every single little thing back in and did a quick inspection from under the hood. I noticed a single little plug type thing dangling out of the socket on the front right (passenger) side, just underneath the fan on that side. I managed somehow to snake my arm up under the bumper and plug the thing back in. I thought that would fix the problem, but i start the car up and turn the a/c on...still really hot air and econ button stuck on. I also noticed that the fan at the very front passenger side of the engine compartment was not spinning, both when the a/c was off and on. I'm kinda confused now as to the culprit of the problem because this happened to me (minus the econ mode) about 3 weeks ago randomly, but went away after about a half a day. This time it has stayed a full day and is showing no signs of going away. Is that unspinning fan somehow related, or could it be something a simple as low freon?

Why would anyone break down the AC to do a timing belt? Does not make sense.

I bet they took the whole nose apart instead of using service position and forgot to plug stuff in.

Either way, your suggestion is right: it needs to go back.

What about the problem 3 weeks ago? One can do the TB, etc. without draining the ac system....could well be the TB service and the ac problem are unrelated.

Don't blame the service guys for ac problems....

I'm not necessarily blaming the service guy, it's just hard to ignore the fact that when I brought the car to the shop in the morning, the AC worked fine, and driving away, it didn't. I'm trying to figure out if its something I can fix myself without bring it back to the shop because like I said, the shop is 2+ hours away (long story, I'm in the middle of nowhere for military training right now). The next time I'll really be able to go down there is on my way back down through there once I'm done here and that's in 2.5 weeks or so.

Like you guys said, he probably just forgot to plug everything back in. I just wasn't sure if the symptoms indicated something else (I read elsewhere that when its stuck in ECON that it typically means the vast majority of the time that the system is low). Thanks!!

Hey Patriot

Look on VAGLinks.com (my sig) under the DIY by model section. I am sure I have the Bentley AC testing procedure on there.

Hope that helps you or the shop. Lol
