Default Coil Pack Problem? Window Problem too?

I'm new to Audi, coming from the DSM crowd so I'm no stranger to vehicles that require constant attention lol. Anyways, I'm looking at a 2001 A6 with the 4.2L engine. It has a rough idle which the current owner states is due to the coil packs needing to be replaced. The ECU does try to correct the timing while it idles and while driving, so this sounds like a plausible fix, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this issue. Also, I rolled the driver's window down and it would only go halfway back up and would roll down again on its own. I've heard some stories about quirky electrical systems in these cars, is this typical? Thanks in advance for the help!

Pull some codes for the engine issue. For the window, do a search for window guides - I doubt this is an electrical issue.

I have the same window isue and i was told that hapens when the window regulater is no good. the regulater is like a window track not 2 hard to put in. may take all of a hour to fix with new parts. Know the with idle situation i would get some type of reading like a obd II from Auto zone (you can rent or buy) find out what the eror is. worst case it is the timing belt that may need to be changed do to expantion. But this isue could be a bunch of things. be safe and smart.

OK, I've got an Autozone nearby that I can rent a scanner from. There's quite a few codes that could come up for this, some not so bad and some scare me. I'll keep ya posted...

Check the variable intake manifold actuator arms on the 4.2 V8. They should turn easily and snap back to their sprung position. If they don't, take $1500 off the price because the intake manifold job costs about that...

The rough idle could be coil but unless the codes say a misfire (which can cause a rough idle) it can be a few other things.

Yes, it is the one in Jenison. I'm just really leery about engine problems with engines I'm not very familiar with. Have you looked at it?

Well, I bought it today. Did a diagnostic scan on it and sure enough, all 8 coil packs came back bad. So, I have 8 new coil packs that should be in tomorrow by the time I get outta work with 8 new NGK iridium plugs (guy said the Bosch plugs in it were fouled). Should have it all in tomorrow.
