Coolant Temp Sensor Stuck. Ideas???
So, my temp gauge started showing cold when the engine is completely warm (94C as shown by VCDS) so I bought a new CTS to install.
Removed the clip (completely, have both pieces) and there is enough corrosion around the sensor to have "glued" the sensor into the water pipe. I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what to do.
Any tips on removing the old sensor? Pliers have not been any help. Heat, penetrating oil???
1) Make completely sure that the clip is removed. If you're not absolutely sure that it is out, there may be some broken pieces still keeping it in.
2) Remove the connector first, then soak the sensor perimeter with brake fluid or a bit of SeaFoam. That will help to deteriorate the O-ring.
3) Keep working, when you think it's not going to come, whoosh, there it is.
4) Use a needle-nose vise grips to get hold of the sensor at the point where the connector attaches. The green plastic is surprisingly strong.
Oh, make sure that you have extras of the clip when starting the job.
Reattach the connector before installing the sensor, push down until the sensor is fully seated, then reinstall the clip.
