electronic instrument cluster replacement
Just had electronic instrument cluster [part no. 4B0920980LX] replaced on 2000 A6.
The new center display has: a]a slightly lighter red background behind the red numbers/letters, b]which becomes black when you look from a side angle, c] a permanent horizontal black line [2 or 3 lines wide] just above red partition line below radio info and, d]also, when the display is turned off via the wiper control arm button, the background of the radio info section goes black but the rest of the display background stays red. [The dash brightness adjustment doesn't help, but does change the intensity somewhat.]
This doesn't seem how it should be. Any ideas appreciated. Maybe software upgrade is required?
Thanks.
Work was done by an independent mechanic - replacing entire instrument cluster, not just a chip, display, etc. Local Audi dealer and online Audi customer care can't say if this is how it's supposed to be. Just doesn't make sense that it should be like this; especially that from a side angle, the background is black - as if something is reversed, but the electrical connections can't be re-attached incorrectly.
