Help! Just got a Malfunction Indicator Lamp Alert

Hi Guys,

Just took my 2001 2.7T out for a spin and up came the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on the dash. The manual is fairly vauge, only stating that there is a malfunction with the engine system. Any idea what the trouble is? Figure it would be a good idea to be for-armed before calling the dealer.

Could be any number of things

The only way to diagnose yourself is with the VAG-COM software, which would pull up the error code. Is it flashing or on constantly? Flashing is more serious.

Common problems include loose gas cap, loose oil dipstick.
