How can this be?
I drove my other car (a 1998 Mazda 626 ES-V6, with 74,030 miles on it) with the stereo and A/C/ventilation system completely off the other day. 25 miles over the hills, to the gym and back.
NO SQUEAKS. NOT A PIP. NOT A CLICK. NOTHING!!! I WAS ASTOUNDED.
After 42 months, with no repairs, the seat doesn't rattle, the console doesn't rumble and click. All I heard was road noise and a sewing-machine like engine sound. There wasn't even any noise from the dashboard, headliner, windows...no wind noise (even during a 95 mph spurt)...no brake squeal...no clouds of brake dust. Seriously, it's embarrassing. I can't think of a single reason why a 10,000 mile Audi should sound so awful, even after spending 3 days in the shop for relative improvement.
I love my A6 and I'm having trouble deciding whether my next car will be an S8 (preferably an RS8) or a TT roadster (preferably an RSTT), but how can Mazda get this right the first time for 1/3-1/2 the price?
When I get tired of cranking up the stereo to cover the noise, I may let A-B have another whack at fixing these problems, but...well, can anyone explain to me why I SHOULDN'T be disappointed?
