Default HP-19 vs.HP-24

Okay, here goes with a can of worms:I have a 2.7T Tip and would like to enjoy a chip with .8 to 1 bar of boost but am aware of the weakness of the trannie. - So I contacted ZF and was told that the HP-19 is max rated to 310nm.(not lb/ft.)which calculates out to 260lb/ft. of torque. Now I see why Audi under-rates our engines at 258lb/ft. My question is - what happened in 2003 when the engine rating went up to 280lb/ft? - Did the tranny get strengthened? - or did the engine ratings get fudged?
Lastly, does anyone know of a swap for an HP-24?

Default ?????

I dont know of any jump in 2.7 power in 2003 ... tell me more.

The weak link appears to be the TC (what a surprise). Same issue with 4.2s and the HP24. 5HP24A is rated for 300 lb-ft (not N-m) --- exactly the same as the 4.2l motors (which, in various states of tune put out from 290 -310 lb-ft).

Lots of people seem to run chips without too much trouble.

Get an MT6? They take the power without complaint ...

Default I believe he's referring to the '04 2.7T S-line...

That had 265 hp / 272 ft lbs of torque.

Yes, the 2004 S-line is indeed what I was referring to.

No, you're right of course - the stated power increase was in 2004's S-line - I was remembering in error. So then what made the difference in the S-line's tiptronic and it's ability to handle extra torque?

I was referring to the 2004 S-line. I did think of the MT swap but the wife prefers Auto. and we share the car. What can be done to strengthen the Torque Converter - if that is the weak spot? - The RS6 uses a Tip. - What gives?

Default RS6 uses a 5HP24A with the hgiher torque TC - you might be able to retrofit...

...but that this point, why nto just buy an RS6? The cost would be extraordinary.

You're going down the low returns for high costs route.

Default There are a few B5S4 guys running the same tranny on stage 3 with little or no mods

and have had zero problems.

If you are just going with a simple stage 1 chip than you will be fine. The best thing that you can do is change the oil in the tranny to a nice synthetic like amsoil.
