Ongoing problem
I have a 1998 a6, 2.8L. The a/c compressor will not turn on. The green plug that connects the compressor to the rest of the car has power going to it. i replaced the compressor with a brand new one and had it recharged, still doesnt work. I dont understand what could be wrong? power to the compressor = compressor should turn on. If there were any faulty sensors the plug shouldnt have power correct? very frustrated and lost. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

When you say power to it - do you mean power to the motor, or power to some control unit ( i don't know that unit specifically)? There are both high and low pressure switches, could one be faulty? Thermal over-ride faulty?

Did you turn on the engine? The engine has to be running for the compressor to turn on.
The power to the compressor is really just power to the electromagnetic clutch.
You should be able to even test the electromagnetic clutch without the engine on...disconnect the wire that powers the clutch and put 12v to it..should hear a click and even physically see it close the gap. If not, you have a failed clutch.
